Instructors

Hazel Cartee

Hazel is the owner of Carolina Superstars Baton & Dance. She is a graduate of Anderson University where she earned her degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. She has taught baton and dance in the area for 50 years and has devoted her life to working with children. Hazel coached the Clemson University Tiger Twirlers for over 30 years along with coordinating the Clemson University Tiger Dancers. Hazel has had numerous teams and solo twirlers win National titles over the years. She has helped many young girls reach their goals in the areas of baton and dance. She has immense experience in recreational and competitive class environments. Her love for children and desire to see them develop a positive self-image makes her an incredible teacher.

Ansley Cartee Minor

Ansley graduated from Clemson University in 2017 with a degree in business management and a minor in athletic leadership. Ansley was the Clemson Feature Twirler from 2013-2017 where she had the opportunity to twirl at two National Championship games! During her time as Feature Twirler she was named Miss TigerTime 2016 and awarded the Lee Tate Spirit of Clemson award.
Upon graduating Clemson, Ansley received the ROARING 10 award from Clemson University in 2021 for being one of ten most distinguished Clemson graduates in the last 10 years.

Ansley’s training in baton & dance started at a young age. She has danced & twirled since just 2 years old. Ansley is a former National Twirling Champion, Miss Majorette of America, & member of the World Team. She traveled to Switzerland with Team USA in 2012 for the World Baton Twirling Championships and received a silver medal.
Ansley loves sharing her love for baton and dance with her students. Seeing Carolina Superstars continue to grow & flourish is a dream come true to her! In the last year, Ansley has enjoyed implementing weekly Bible studies in to her elite teams’ curriculum. Creating an environment where students love to be in, love learning, and can thrive is what she strives for!

Melissa Hightower

We are thrilled to have Ms. Melissa as our front desk manager! Melissa was a student of Ms. Hazel’s about 50 years ago. She works at Montessori School of Anderson as the Director and Director of Admissions. Melissa is enjoying life and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She is so excited to be part of the Carolina Superstars family!

Marilla Riggs

Marilla holds a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Dance from Shenandoah University, graduating in 2014. Entering her 7th season this fall, Marilla proudly coaches the Clemson Tiger Dancers, guiding a 20-member team through performances in Death Valley alongside the Clemson Tiger Band.
From the age of 3 in East Tennessee, Marilla trained in ballet, pointe, jazz, tap, and hip hop. She also enjoyed performing in musical theatre productions like High School Musical, Hairspray, and Seussical at a regional theatre.

After college, Marilla lived in D.C., working with a professional dance company, teaching in studios, and guest-performing with a Grammy-winning artist.
Now settled in Spartanburg with her family, Marilla is committed to sharing her passion for dance and performance with the next generation at Carolina Superstars.

Gracie Page

Gracie is originally from Elberton, GA and is a 2022-2023 graduate of the University of Georgia. As a Double Dawg, she received her B.A. in Advertising and M.A. in Journalism and Mass Communication with an emphasis in Integrated ADPR. Gracie was a member of the UGA Majorette line for four years and was able to cheer on the Dawgs as they earned the title of 2021 National Champions. Gracie is passionate about helping the younger generation of twirlers gain the opportunities and experiences that twirling has allowed her. She has been such an amazing asset at Carolina Superstars! Our students love her and love learning from her!

Sophia Lutz

Sophia is from Columbia, Pennsylvania and is entering her sophomore year at Clemson University where she is the Feature Twirler for Tiger Band. She has trained in baton, tumbling, and dance for the past 16 years, and has competed individually since she was 4. Sophia has won six summer national titles competing for Drum Majorettes of America. In 2021, she reigned as Majorette Queen of America where she had the honor to represent the DMA organization throughout the year! Additionally, she taught private lessons and classes in baton and dance at her home studio in PA. Sophia loves being able to build technique and confidence for all levels of learners. She is so excited to continue teaching at Carolina Superstars this year! Our students love and adore her. We are thankful to have her at Carolina Superstars!

Nicole Chambers

We are beyond thrilled to welcome Nicole Chambers to our Carolina Superstars staff as an instructor! Nicole danced and twirled under Hazel as a child where she learned invaluable life skills along with broadening her dance & baton background! Nicole has been working at the studio in various capacities since her own child started taking at a young age! For the last 15 years, Nicole has assisted Carolina Superstars by being our recital coordinator, working the front counter, & teaching classes. Nicole received her Bachelors of the Arts degree from Anderson University in human services and Paralegal. Nicole says her goal when teaching is to make sure each child feels welcomed and that each child leaves class knowing they learned and had fun in class! We are honored to welcome Nicole as an instructor!

Gracie Williams

Gracie Williams is from Pendleton, South Carolina. Gracie is an outstanding competitive baton twirler and dancer. She is the reigning South Carolina State Champion in Solo, Strut, 2 Baton, & Freestyle. This past summer Gracie won the advance solo for her age at Nationals at Notre Dame University! Gracie is also a member of Team USA and will be representing the U.S. at the World Championships in Liverpool, England in August of 2023. Gracie has been a student at Carolina Superstars since the beginning of her baton & dance career. She is excited to share her passion & love for baton & dance to the next generation of students.

Grayson Lamb

Grayson is originally from Pickens, SC. She graduated from Clemson University with her bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree at Clemson. Grayson is a current member of the Clemson Tiger Dancers, where she has the opportunity to perform on gamedays in Death Valley. In 2023, Grayson had the honor of representing the Tiger Dancers as Miss TigerTime and was voted Most Valuable Dancer by her teammates. After finishing her master’s degree and dance career at Clemson, she has plans to teach early primary grades at a local elementary school. Grayson has had a passion for dance since taking her first ballet class at her mom’s studio at the age of 3. In high school, Grayson was a member of the award-winning Senior Dance Company at Dancers Corner in Greer, SC, where she trained in all styles of dance and worked with various choreographers from across the country. In her 19 years of dancing, she has received scholarships to local regional and national dance conventions and competitions for her technique and performance. Grayson is thrilled to continue her dancing and teaching career for her 3rd year at Carolina Superstars!

Katie Chacharone

Katie is from Worcester, Massachusetts and currently attends Clemson University as a Tiger Dancer and is pursuing a degree in Animal Veterinary Sciences. Tiger Dancers has given her the opportunity to perform in Death Valley and other football stadiums on game days. She’s been dancing for 15 years and has been trained in all styles. For 6 years she had the opportunity to be apart of her Dance team where she competed at a state, regional and national level. She taught private acro lessons at her home studio and helped assist in select classes. Katie loves being able to build confidence in dancers as well as improve their technique! She’s super excited to work with everyone and make Carolina Superstars her new home!
